What is Aged rum?
Gold rum can be recognized from its golden amber color. To make gold rum, it must be aged in wooden casks for a longer period of time than white rum, but for a shorter time than dark rum. The aging time may vary in different locations due to the climate in which the rum is made. Gold rum, also known as amber rum, can be produced all over the world. The production originally began in the Caribbean but is now made in the U.S.A., Puerto Rico, Brazil, and even Germany.
Is white rum or gold rum better?
Both white rum and gold rum are made from sugar cane. The difference between the two rums comes down to the aging process, with gold rum being aged for a longer period of time. Gold rum has a fuller flavor, with underlying tastes like molasses and caramel. White rum has a milder flavor with very little complexity. For this reason, white rum is typically made to mix cocktails, while gold and dark rum is usually drunk straight.
