A Classic Negroni Recipe

If you’re looking for a crisp cocktail to enjoy on summer evenings, then you can’t go wrong with a Negroni. This beautiful Italian drink it a staple in Italy, but has become increasingly popular right here in the U.S.

The Negroni is a bright red color with a colorful orange peel topping it off to make it simply gorgeous.

This drink is refreshing, but not overly sweet, due to the bitter Campari and gin that balances out the sweetness of the vermouth. Since this drink is not too sweet, it’s great for enjoying as an aperitif or during a meal.

A Classic Negroni Recipe

Negroni ingredients

The recipe is simple and only contains three ingredients.

Campari adds a herbal, fruity, bitter flavor.

Red Vermouth adds a semi-sweet flavor necessary for balancing out the bitterness of the other liquors.

Gin adds a dry taste.

A Negroni is usually served with an orange peel garnish, which you can make by using a vegetable peeler and giving it a slight twist.

How to make a Negroni

To make a Negroni, you'll need these ingredients:

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • Garnish: orange peel

Instructions:

  1. Into a mixing glass, add the gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, and ice. Stir until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a glass filled with large ice cubes.
  3. Garnish with an orange peel.
