Simply serve neat in a snifter or on the rocks for a classic and simple drink. Don Julio tequila is produced in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, one of the country’s most fertile agave-growing regions. The microclimate and mineral-rich clay soil allow the blue agave plant to flourish.
Each bottle of Don Julio tequila is produced here and features NOM number — our seal of authenticity — signifying where the tequila was made. Unlike many other distilleries, La Primavera only produces our ultra-premium tequila that is crafted with the same attention to detail and passion that founder Don Julio González embodied.
What is añejo tequila best for?
Añejo tequila is made with 100% pure agave that has been aged for 1-3 months. Añejo tequila has a much more complex flavor than a traditional tequila, which is only made with 51% agave. Añejo tequila can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. The first way to drink it is in a classic margarita. If you’re unfamiliar with the hearty flavors of tequila, mixing it into a margarita is a good way to ease into it. Once you’ve gotten accustomed to the flavors, try mixing it with sangrita, which is a non-alcoholic drink that’s usually served with tequila. Sangria consists of citrus, tomato juice, and grenadine with a generous portion of hot sauce. If you’re ready to taste all the flavors of añejo solo, then you can drink it straight up. Add a small amount to a shot glass and sip it slowly, letting it sit in your mouth for 5-10 seconds so you can fully absorb the full range of flavors. If the taste is too strong, try dipping lime in some salt and sucking on it in between sips.
Is Añejo better than Reposado?
Añejo tequila and reposado tequila both offer their own unique characteristics. Añejo tequila has been aged for 1-3 years, while reposado tequila has been aged for between 60-354 days. As a result of the aging, each tequila takes on unique flavors. Reposado tequila mellows as it ages, and has notes of oak and vanilla. Añejo has a much stronger flavor profile, with notes of caramel, oak, and toffee that combine with a sweet, peppery agave flavor.
